Hello everyone, welcome back to another one of my travel blog posts. As you can tell from the title of this post, I will be giving you tips on 10 things you must do when visiting Belfast in Northern Ireland. I went to Belfast with my boyfriend Kevin where he got the chance to meet half of my family that live over there. We had a great time interacting and engaging with everybody. It was lovely for me to see all my family again as I only really see them like once a year or every other year. We only went for 3 nights which flew by… to be honest, it was rather nice to just have a few days off work to chill. Fortunately, the weather was lovely for 2 of the days we were there and the last day is when the rain came on which didn’t really bother me as I felt like we needed it. I really enjoy going to Belfast because it isn’t that far on the plane and it has some great historical buildings and landmarks. I did a post similar to this one which was published after I went to Amsterdam, you can view it here: https://bryoniburnsblog.com/2018/05/23/what-to-do-on-a-short-city-break-in-48-hours-amsterdam/
I know exactly what you’re thinking and of course, with most Cities, you would typically go to their city centre to explore the shops and get a rough idea of what it’s about. However, I honestly believe that, as a tourist, you have to go to Belfast City Centre, not just because it’s the city, but because it has a lot of beautiful old-fashioned buildings that are known as they’re famous landmarks. Belfast town is absolutely massive! They have multiple shopping centres, theatres and of course a lot of tourist attractions. They have multiple old-fashioned historical buildings that are used as everyday shops. For example, the first photo below is a Primark. It is just absolutely beautiful. From the outside of the building, you would never know it was a Primark unless you saw the sign. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to see everything as I was only there for 3 days, however, I do know that the next time I get the chance to go to Belfast, I would love to do one of their hop-on-hop-off sightseeing 2. Bus City Tours. I think it would be beneficial and probably the best way to see the most important landmarks in Belfast. I believe that as a tourist it is important that you get the most out of going on holiday which is why I try to do a lot of stuff in a short amount of time.
The Belfast City Hall is a beautiful landmark, even just from the outside. Luckily, I managed to go inside, for FREE, to have a look at their interior and the glassed stained tinted windows. It is part of their exhibition to have pictures of the most famous landmarks on them. There isn’t too much to write about this because it is something that you’d have to go to yourself. It is definitely a popular tourist attraction as it was fairly busy with tours happening when we went. I will let the photos speak for themselves. I went a bit happy crazy with the camera and took photos from every angle, but here’s a few:
This is one of many beautiful glass windows which has been designed to inform tourists of some of the most famous tourist attractions in Belfast. For example, the two yellow cranes, the big blue-fish and the building of the Titanic, including the Titanic museum open for visitors.
The Titanic museum is an interactive museum open for the public, from 2012, to give them the Titanic experience. You get to explore the shipyard, walk the decks, travel to the depts of the ocean and uncover the true legend of Titanic in the city where it all began. If you are into history and like to find out the truth to get a better understanding then I 100% recommend this. I am very much into history and I love learning about the past. I thought this was incredible. The museum is so life-like and it does give you the feel like as if you are on the Titanic. I was able to capture some great photos to give you an idea of the sort of things that you can see.
Unfortunately, I was unable to upload The Ultimate Titanic Experience, so here is the YouTube link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA4taWMtS9A&t=125s
5. ViewPoint From Hannahstown Hill
A part from Hannahstown Hill, there are many places where you can get a beautiful view of Belfast. There are many mountains surrounding the City Centre which creates beautiful views all around you. My favourite place to stand to look at Belfast City is the viewpoint from Hannahstown hill. I managed to get a little photo of this, although, it was slightly foggy the day I decided to adventure up. I just think it is absolutely beautiful.
6. Range Of Shopping Malls: Kennady Center, Burcher Road, Lisburn
Other than all the beautiful tourist attractions, Belfast is well-known for having a lot of shopping malls. Whether if they are small or big… they are everywhere. I absolutely loved spending a whole day shopping and travelling to all the shopping malls. It is so nice to see all the different shops, especially ones that I have never been to before. I didn’t actually buy a lot which is unusual for me, however, I did buy from Urban Outfitters and Primark. I had to be careful with my purchases as I had to make sure I could fit it in my suitcase to bring home. I suppose this is good because we all know I love shopping. I would have bought loads LOL. I have attached a couple of photos below for you to see what I bought in Belfast.
For mine and Kevin’s last night in Belfast, we decided to do something that we both love to do. We decided to go bowling. Bowling is so much fun and I love it so much. I get very competitive though. We played two games and guess what… I WON BOTH OF THE GAMES! I am pretty sure that Kevin didn’t let me win LOL. We had a lot of fun and it was lovely to just spend a little time together. We both work full-time which does make it difficult for us to actually spend time and do things together. I honestly had so much fun. After, bowling we went into the little arcade which is right next to the bowling alleys. There were so many games to play and the fun part was winning the tickets. Our favourite machine to play was the flappy bird game. It was sooooooo fun much. I loved how it was two player and after you got tickets for a prize. We managed to win 428 tickets and we chose 2x Rubik’s cubes, a large rubber and a dancing laughing emoji. These were just small prizes as it is designed for children, however, we did have fun… I must admit.
8. Grand Opera House: The Wizard Of Oz
As you all know, I am a big fan of shows and I love to watch shows in London on a yearly basis. It was so lovely for my auntie to plan a show for us to watch and boy what a great show it was indeed. We watched The Wizard Of Oz that was a children’s production. It was very clever and well thought out. I loved how many children there were apart of this production. At one point, there must have been over 80 children on stage. All of the children were brillant and definitely very talented. The girl who played Dorothy was incredible…like mind-blowing. I am honestly so pleased I had the chance to watch a production like this as it was definitely a lot different to the types of productions you see in London. Being a Drama student, hoping to pursue my career as a Drama teacher, I love to watch shows to give me ideas on what I can do to make my acting different or better. I have definitely learnt a lot from watching this childrens production.
Things that I want to do in Belfast next time:
I am very intrigued by the history of places that I travel to which is why Belfast Castle is definitely up there on my things to do. I have been for mini holidays to Belfast 5 times which is why next time I know I am 100% visiting the castle. I have looked it up online and the photos taken of it are absolutely stunning. As you are probably aware, I love visiting places that have big historical old-fashioned buildings that have history to them. I think they are mesmerising and I love capturing these types of photographs.
10. Belfast Zoo
I would love to visit Belfast Zoological Gardens to see all the cute animals and take some beautiful photographs of them. I went to the zoo for the very first time about a month ago and absolutely loved it. I liked seeing the animals up close for the very first time and seeing how they live. I would really like to visit the zoo in Belfast to see what it’s like and how different it is to Marwell Zoo that I went to.
