A few months ago, me and my friend decided to go on a little adventurous walk to explore one of the most well-known hills in Winchester. It was a very foggy morning, but this did not stop us. I have heard a few people talk highly about St. Giles Hill, but never thought it would be as incredible as this. It is a great way to see the whole city, especially as it’s conveniently at the bottom of town. It is very difficult to explain how mesmerising it was, so I will let the photographs speak for themselves.
WOW! Isn’t this view just absolutely incredible? They were right. The view is absolutely astonishing. It is so beautiful to stand up at the viewpoint and experience the outlook upon the whole city. As you can see from the photographs, St. Giles Hill is completely safe with a metal barrier in place to prevent any injuries. There is a map to the left which gives an indication as to what you are looking at in relation to the buildings within the city.
It was actually quite easy to get to the top of the hill as there were a few different routes to take which is, of course, completely dependent on your personal health and fitness. The incline up the hill would vary and some routes would have taken longer than others. I found it no problem at all getting up to the top of hill by following all the signposted directions. It roughly took a few minutes to stroll up the hill and it was definitely worth it.
Personally, I think that St. Giles Hilltop would be a perfect spot for a romantic date, whether if that is at night or during the day. There is a big massive field at the top of the hill with benches located around, so this would be ideal for little picnics. It is honestly something that is 100% worth experiencing which is no hassle at all and is completely free!
If you’re a lot like me and you enjoy exploring, travelling, and even sightseeing then this is perfect for you. I spent approximately 45 minutes up there admiring the view, capturing shots and watching the city move. I will definitely be visiting St. Giles Hill again, perhaps when the weather isn’t foggy. I think I am going to try come up the hill in the evening to capture all the bright lights. I just think it will be beautiful!
